Cactus Jack’s Saloon is a great place to meet friends, relax and listen to great music. And, Cactus Jack’s knows how to give back to the community. They are a faithful sponsor of The Big Chili’s music line-up and we just love them! They host some fabulous bands so be sure and check out their calendar here.volunteer firefighters in Colorado

For instance, Oakhurst, a local band, is coming home to Evergreen this weekend, and will be at Cactus Jack’s March 10 at 8 P.M. When you hear Oakhurst described as “eclectic,” resist the temptation to doubt.  Some artists talk the talk, but when it comes to music that knows no boundaries and no limits and yet remains deeply rooted in the American vernacular, Oakhurst is one tight group that knows how to walk the walk.

Have you experienced the award-winning theater in the heart of Evergreen? For four decades, the Evergreen Players have performed musicals, comedies, and dramas. The amateur troupe, consisting primarily of local residents, stages eight plays each year. Their current show, Remaining in Orbit, is playing through January 29, 2012. Come and experience the regional premiere of this play by Evergreen playwright Scott Gibson, directed by Len Matheo.

Henry “Hen” Loudin, a self-absorbed middle-aged man has shut himself off from the distractions and annoyances of the outside world, aided by his opinionated assistant Ginnie who runs errands–and interference–on his behalf. One day, Hen’s neighbor, the free-spirited Lissie bursts into his life, creating havoc with his well-ordered existence. A seriocomic examination of co-dependence between three slightly dysfunctional people each seeking a chance at happily-ever-after.

3eatles, Bucktones, & Joe Bye

Posted in 2011, Around Town, Remembering September, The Big Chili Cook-Off, USA, Who Gets This Whole Thing Going with tags , , , , , , , on 11-25-2011 by thebigchilicookoffevergreen

Today we highlight three more bands from The Big Chili Cook-Off. The community was really thrilled with the music. Kudos to the musicians and the singers!

The Bucktones are one of the most versatile bands in the Denver area. The band includes Evergreen locals Jeff Scarborough and Jerry Grannell, along with John Bertalan on percussion and Kathleen Widlund singing. They will be appearing December 16th at Crossroads in Pine, Co. Check here for contact information.

The 3eatles are the Denver area’s authentic Beatles tribute band. You can listen to the music of The Beatles the way it was intended to be heard! Check here for their set list.

We also loved listening to Joe Bye and Friends. Joe Bye’s infectious style of high energy acoustic rock has made him a local favorite with a diverse fan base. Every show is different depending on which “Friends” Joe brings along. You can connect with Joe on facebook. Joe Bye will be at Crossroads Pub & Grill tonight, November 25th, at 6:30.

Will Rockit

The Big Chili Cook-Off was thrilled to have Will Rockit as our main stage band for the event. They are a band that loves to perform for the crowd! They have classic rock roots from the 60′s, and deliver a great show with music through the current day. The most important thing they do is connect with their fans! If you missed Will Rockit, you can get a sampling of their music and view their calendar here. If you’ve never had the pleasure of hearing them, it’s definitely worth checking out!

Brothers of the Son

One of the phenomenal bands that performed at The Big Chili was Brothers of the Son. This six piece band embodies the spirit and emotion of Southern Rock, Colorado Style. Influences such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and Allman Brothers drive the twin guitars, keys and a rockin’ rhythm section to set the stage for strong vocals. Interludes of acoustic 12 string and country rock ballads round out a really special band.

You can enjoy Brothers of the Son at The Little Bear in Evergreen on Saturday, December 17th. Be sure to mark your calendars! If you missed this great band at the Cook-Off, you can get a sampling here.

Austin Young

Young Austin and No Difference, Young Austin BandIf you somehow missed Young Austin and No Difference at The Big Chili Cook-Off – well, I’m sorry to say it but, you really missed something. Austin is a young man (a boy really – 15-years-old) full of talent and drive, and such a pleasure to listen to. On November 5th, the band will be at the Rusty Bucket in Lakewood, and on November 12th, they’ll be at Frankies Bar and Grill in Colorado Springs. Check here for a full schedule of upcoming dates and a sampling of the music. For more information, photos and music, check out Young Austin and No Difference at MySpace.
