The Bear that Brought the House Down

We all think of the Little Bear Saloon on Main Street in Evergreen as the place where women hang their lingerie from the ceiling and great bands from all over the country display their wares.  But last September the Little Bear was something more.  Tab Benoit came to Evergreen to entertain the chili revelers at the Big Chili Cook-off, and he was joined by Chris Rathbun, Just Desserts, The Woodies and Mighty High.  The afternoon was filled with some of the best music these mountains have ever heard and it was all courtesy of the little saloon on the corner of Douglas Park Road and Highway 74.  The event raised over $50,000 and provided the mountain communities with a way to say “thanks” to the men and women of the Volunteer Mountain Fire and Rescue teams.  After a long day and gallons of chili the music brought the crowd to their feet while all of us, for just a moment, decided life had given us something to dance about, and that is what we did.  Thank you Little Bear for helping us find our feet and making an important day a grand success!
