Wave it Loudly

So, word on the street has it that the county is restricting the use of banners that are used to promote events around town – events like the Big Chili.  Even though the banner is hanging on a privately owned building and business, at the business owner’s consent, if someone complains the county will insist that the banners come down.  The banners can get cluttered when we have a lot going on in Evergreen and Conifer, but there is something to be said about a small town that has a lot going on.  In a day and age when so many mountain area settlements are becoming a parade of empty storefronts, a community that is active and talking about it should be encouraged.  The county doesn’t react to the banners unless somebody complains, so that is really where the issue lies.  We all want our beautiful community to stay that way, but our definition of beauty needs to be broad.  If beauty is well-manicured and orderly, then Evergreen is off the list.  If however, beauty is active, energetic, getting it done, preserving tradition but not hiding under a rock, we are blessed to live in these gorgeous mountains but the people are what make it all work, then Evergreen, Conifer, Indian Hills, Pine, Morrison, Idaho Springs, Kittredge, Bailey and parts in between rise gloriously to the top.  It is after all in the eye of the beholder.
