Ready, Set, … GO!

Living in a fire district where the firefighters are volunteers means this: when you dial 9-1-1, and the call goes out over the scanner, a volunteer living close to you may hear and respond before either a firetruck or ambulance has a chance to get to you. Because of this uniuqe nature of a volunteer department (versus a paid department where firefighters respond from the firehouse), each firefighter needs a Go-Box – a well-stocked first aid kit that can be grabbed on the way out the door. With these kits, a first responder at a scene can not only assess the situation, but can apply first aid to an individual if needed. And the reality is that first aid saves lives.

The Big Chili Cook-Off raises funds for equipment like Go-Boxes. Come out on September 11th, and you can say ‘thank you’ to some of our volunteer firefighters in person, and you can go home knowing you’ve helped our mountain area fire departments supply critical equipment for our volunteers – equipment that will one day save a life.
