Skate the Lake

volunteer firefighters in ColoradoEvergreen Lake was declared one of the “Top 10 Skating Rinks” in the U.S. by Sunset Magazine. Have you ever skated on the lake? The lake will tentatively open this year for skating on December 17th, but call first to make sure it’s open. Then plan on getting your tickets for the annual Skate the Lake WinterFest, which has been a New Year’s Eve tradition since 1996. The Winter Festival offers ice skating, fireworks, fire barrel bonfires, sleigh rides, food, ice games such as pick-up hockey and broom-stick hockey along with activities (jump castles, face painting), lots of food vendors, music and dancing!

The fireworks display is incredibly beautiful. It will be lit over the ice – not just at midnight but first at 8:00 p.m. for those who need to make an early night. It’s a truly a magical experience, with the mountains, the lake and the festivities.  Ice skate rentals are limited, so please bring your own skates, or arrive early to rent skates. Don’t miss this fabulous community event!

On a different note ~  if you haven’t gotten your 2012 Firefighter Calendar yet, it’s not too late! You can purchase them at The Big Chili. 100% of the proceeds from every calendar sold through the end of the year goes to our local fire departments.
