On September 9, 2012, from 11:00-3:30, our Lake House Stage will host some talented musicians playing a more soothing repertoire than you’ll hear on our outdoor stages at The Big Chili Cook-Off.

At 11:00, stop in to hear Danny Masters, “A guitarist who can shred with the best of them or wrap us around his strings with a compelling and mesmerizing experience.”

At 12:15, listeners will be enthralled by Melodic Delights Ensemble, featuring violins and a cellist playing festive classical music.

At 1:30, Two Guitars Telling a Story will entertain you. Imagine Chet Atkins and his fingerstyle tunes combined with Eric Clapton and his sweet lead riffs joining together to play for you in your living room; this is their music.

There are many reasons to support The Big Chili Cook-Off. The best reason is, of course, that the event puts money into the hands of our volunteer fire departments. This money translates into equipment and technology and actually makes our community safer.

But here in Evergreen, even when we’re raising money for a cause, we still like to have a good time, with rockin’ music, great food and drink, and tons of fun. We have many things we love about the event, but some of our favorites are these:

The Mountain Firefighters Challenge – we get to watch our firefighters don their full gear and run an obstacle course, demonstrating speed, strength and skill. It’s a little friendly competition where the winner takes the honors.

Our Children’s Area – we have an awesome play area and activities to make the day fun for our little ones. Then we run a Mountain Firefighters Challenge for our aspiring firefighters where they get to don the gear and compete just like their grown-up counterparts.

The Art Vendors – Evergreen is full of artisans who are both gifted and skilled. Their creations are one-of-a-kind works of art, and each piece is available to be viewed by many, and purchased by one lucky individual. Come on out to The Big Chili Cook-Off this year and experience the Arts on a local level.

The Poetry of Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Sonnets from the Portuguese No. 14 by Elizabeth Barrett Browning

If thou must love me, let it be for noughtvolunteer firefighters in Colorado
Except for love’s sake only. Do not say
‘I love her for her smile—her look—her way
Of speaking gently,—for a trick of thought
That falls in well with mine, and certes brought
A sense of pleasant ease on such a day’—
For these things in themselves, Belovèd, may
Be changed, or change for thee,—and love, so wrought,
May be unwrought so. Neither love me for
Thine own dear pity’s wiping my cheeks dry,—
A creature might forget to weep, who bore
Thy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby!
But love me for love’s sake, that evermore
Thou mayst love on, through love’s eternity.

volunteer firefighters in ColoradoStopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost 1923

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

volunteer firefighters in ColoradoLast year at The Big Chili Cook-Off, we had many gifted local artisans displaying and selling their wares at vendor booths. Our art vendors were in the Lake House, and it was a favorite spot of many.
