Keep the Fire Ban in Mind

volunteer firefighters in ColoradoAs we head closer to summer and especially the Fourth of July, please keep in mind that permissible fireworks, as defined by Colorado Revised Statutes, 12-28-101, are strictly prohibited here in our mountain community. But this doesn’t mean we can’t all enjoy celebrating the day. Each year Indian Hills Fire / Rescue hosts a traditional July 4th celebration. The day-long events to celebrate our nation’s birthday begin with a Pancake Breakfast for the public, followed by a Parade, Fire/Rescue demonstrations, day-long entertainment by local musicians and culminates with one of the best and largest fireworks displays (weather permitting) in the entire metro area. This great event is run by volunteer firefighters and is really great fun! Mark your calendars now – July 4th – and we’ll look forward to seeing you there!

Christmas Firehouse

Posted in 2011, Our Heros, The Big Chili Cook-Off, USA with tags , , , , , , , on 12-15-2011 by thebigchilicookoffevergreen

Christmas villages are very quaint. You know what I’m talking about – the little Christmas towns some of us set up in our bay window, with little buildings, little trees, little people. The more detail, the better. It adds to the charm to have vehicles, or a dog, or an ice rink with real skaters. When the village is lit, it’s truly beautiful. But it really isn’t complete without a firehouse – arguably the most important building in any small town. If you’re trying to think of the perfect gift for the one who painstakingly sets up the little village in your home, consider this.

2011 Holiday Walk

Posted in 2011, Around Town, Evergreen Lake House, The Big Chili Cook-Off, USA, Who Gets This Whole Thing Going with tags , , , , , , , , , on 11-28-2011 by thebigchilicookoffevergreen

The town of Evergreen will be hosting some very illustrious guests this weekend. The Evergreen Downtown Business Association is holding its 20th annual Holiday Walk in downtown Evergreen, on Friday, December 2, beginning with the 5:00pm arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Lake House to light the community tree. Santa & Mrs. Claus will arrive in a fire truck to light the tree and sing carols. Caroling will be lead by the Evergreen Lutheran Church Choir.

After the tree lighting, you can continue the holiday cheer by walking with Santa and Mrs. Claus to historic downtown Evergreen for photos, roasted chestnuts, choirs, bell ringers, face painting, dance performances, and more.  You can make your own Christmas ornaments and wooden toys too!  Join in the celebration with local merchants, taking advantage of holiday specials, live entertainment throughout the evening and holiday treats. Photos with Santa & Mrs. Claus will be at the Ice House Café. Photos begin at 6:45 P.M. and the cost is $5 (and well worth it since this is the real Santa and his wife.)

This is an incredibly fun event, especially for the little ones. Bundle up your kiddos (and yourself, too) and come out for a night of merriment and memories. Shuttle service will be available from Hiwan Homestead, Church of the Transfiguration, Lake House, and RTD parking lot next to Christ the King Church on Hwy 74.

New Year’s Eve in a small town cannot be done any better than Evergreen’s Skate the Lake extravaganza, put on by and benefiting DriveSmart, a non-profit devoted to road safety for driver’s, passengers and pedestrians. This year’s party on ice drew a crowd of skaters and revelers alike. Do we brave the subzero temperatures for the skating itself, or is it the food, or the fireworks display at 8pm and midnight? It is for the sheer thrill of soaking up the mountain ambiance in the dark of night on the magical eve of a new beginning. Undaunted by frostbite we glide through the night in one of the most beautiful places we know. Add the friends and family and the feeling of goodwill and you have a wintery winner on ice, literally. The Big Chili salutes the DriveSmart Skate the Lake event for bringing Evergreen the perfect way to celebrate another year in the mountains.
